Last year, after years of not jumping on the bandwagon, I decided to start watching the show Supernatural. I’m not sure why, I think I started getting the blooper reels on my FB wall. Anyway, no one prepared me for what would happen to my life. I started binging the show on the weekends. Then when I needed a break from the show, I would watch blooper reels and convention videos.
Then, wouldn’t you know, I started getting suggestions from FB to join the fan groups. Now I know I got in way too deep, but I didn’t care. Found out some spoilers, lived through season 7, and watched S15 Ep 20. During all of this, I decided to ask my friend and the other half of Made Dames, Indepgirlism, if she would like to go to a convention with me. Luckily she said yes!

This weekend, we arrived in Charlotte, NC, to attend a Supernatural convention. I didn’t know what to expect. I haven’t watched as long as most of the others at this event. I was blown away with everything. Number 1 and the most important, is how nice and welcoming the actors & actresses are to everyone in attendance. Just so genuine. The attendees were also just as amazing. In a way, it was like a big family reunion.
The fun part of this convention was that the actors are on strike. That means no talking about the show, upcoming projects, or dressing/ doing anything in character. So the panels mainly turned into a therapy session for them. Which I was okay with. Some people were disappointed, but I think we got to know the performers better. Kim & Briana were hilarious! Actually, I think I fell in platonic love with every speaker there. Also, it was Misha’s (Castiel) birthday on Sunday. Which we got to celebrate. (See attached pic)
So much happened in that short weekend. Karaoke, trivia, auctions, a concert, photo ops, and autographs galore! Not to mention that Rob Benedict (Chuck) and Richard Speight Jr (Gabriel) were the MCs for the event. Richard is amazing at improv. Plus, they both can sing. DJ Qualls MC’d the karaoke event with David Hadyn-Jones (Ketch) and Nate Torrence (Sully). They added so much fun to the event. It was so high energy! I haven’t danced that much in years.
My favorite part was getting autographs. I decided to draw a picture that came from a blooper reel. Sam & Dean were discussing what their mother, Mary, was doing and a magical liopleurodon came up. Which made Jared (Sam) refer back to a viral YouTube video. So I drew a liopleurodon with a moose, a squirrel, and a raven. (The raven can stand for Castiel (Feathers) or Crowley) I had some of the actors sign the matting that was around the picture. Most of them loved the drawing. DJ Qualls said it was dope. Jensen smiled while admiring it. Mark Sheppard liked my name, along with the shirt I wore during our photo op. (Body by Chips & Guac) But they genuinely try to interact with everyone that comes through. Unfortunately, I was tired & on pain meds, so I wasn’t at my best for some of them.
The photo ops are surreal. You get maybe 30 seconds for your picture. Which I’m not complaining about. All the artists had so many to get through. What was amazing to me is how they did try to make you feel special during those 30 seconds. I had 4 photo ops. Loved every single one of them.
The question is, do I recommend going? YES! I’ll warn you now, it’s not cheap. Will I do this again? DEFINITELY! I’m already saving up to get a better package so I can do meet & greets. I hoping Indepgirlism will go with me again also. It was so much fun! I highly recommend going to one if you love the show. It was a wonderful experience.
