With Father’s day coming up, I would like to issue a challenge to all the fathers out there. I’ve watched over the years where the typical TV dad was once the head of the family has now been reduced to nothing more than a bumbling idiot. At first, the moms were running the show. Now it seems its the children who run the household. That’s not right.
The husband/father is supposed to be the leader of his family. Not a “my way or the highway” type of leader either. That’s tyrannical. Being a good leader is looking at situations and trying to find the best solution with the least amount of collateral damage.
I added this song by Sanctus Real, because I truly believe this is a father’s song.
You need to also remember you lead by example. Your children are always watching you. How you treat your wife is how they will treat her and their future spouse. What you do around the house is how they will be around the house. How you talk to your children is how they will talk to and think about themselves.
If you tell them they are “less than”, then they will slowly become less than whatever you comparing them to. If you tell them that they are good at something and act proud of what they are doing, they will continue to do better.
Teach them that its okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. Show them how to respect others, while respecting themselves. Show them how to love others. Show your children what leadership and sacrifice looks like. Teach them the act of suiting up & showing up. Most of all, protect them. They’re only in your care for a short time.
So, fathers out there, the gauntlet has been thrown down. Do you accept this challenge?
