Open Letter to Amber Heard

Dear Amber,

I read your statement about the outcome of this case. You stated that you thought you had freedom of speech.

You did.

I think you are confused about what that actually means. You ARE free to say what you like (mostly). However, you are not free from any consequences of what you say.

You spoke quite freely…numerous times…and that’s your right. The problem is, you defamed another person. And that person decided they were not going to put up with it.

A jury heard all the evidence, listened to every recording, watched all your fake tears, and determined that your words…your freedom of speech…financially, and publicly, hurt another. Furthermore, they said it was malicious, which is a fancy way of saying you lied.

You can say pretty much anything. You can shout it, put it in an op ed, and testify about it. You can even try to make people believe that what you said is true!

What you can’t do is expect to be shielded from any damage your speech inflicts on others.

This was a hard way to learn that lesson. And yet, you still don’t seem to understand it. Have your lawyer explain it to you.

Sincerely,

Everyone
