To Mask or Not To Mask

We’re now into the 18th month of the 2 week shutdown. Endless fights have happened over masks, for and against. Don’t get me wrong, some of the videos have been entertaining. Unfortunately, most have been irritating and sad.

I watched a video of one woman, without a mask, go up to someone’s vehicle who had their windows up, demanding to know why they weren’t wearing a mask. Seriously? If this past 18 months have given us anything, it’s more Karens & Kens. People who don’t want to wear masks coughing or even grosser, spitting on those who do. Then, you have people who want to wear masks getting into physical altercations with people who don’t.

Here’s a life hack for that. You ready? LEAVE EACH OTHER ALONE!

Believe what you want to believe. You have that right. BUT if a business puts up a sign saying that they want you to wear a mask to come into THEIR space, they have the right to refuse you service. It’s just that simple.

Most of the time, I chose not to wear a mask. This is picture of me wearing one because the place I was at asked me to wear one. I wanted to do business with them, so I wore one. See? Simple. I also wear one at work, because my employer says I have to, so I do.

Here’s my hope for the future. Do I want to see a sea of masks like some Southeast Asian countries? No. Do I want to see people who need to wear a mask because of medical reasons be able to wear one without judgmental stares? Yes. Until this pandemic, if someone went into public wearing a mask, people stared. Trying to figure out what’s wrong with them. We, as nation, have gotten to use to the idea that we need to know intimate details of other people’s lives.

Mask if you want to. Mask if you’re asked. Don’t mask if you don’t want to. Whatever you do, DON’T BE A MASKHOLE!
